Will my black & white photos print as a true black & white image?
Not always and we want you to know this before you order.
Our printers, like most large-scale printing facilities producing thousands of unique products daily, process all files through CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and key/black). Because of how this, there's no way to isolate a black-only color channel. Instead, black is rendered as "rich black," which is made up of all four color channels combined.
What does this mean for my photos?
When you print a black & white photo, you may notice a slight hue shift, often a subtle warm or sepia-like tone, rather than a pure, neutral black & white result. This is a natural byproduct of the CMYK printing process itself, not an error in your file or your order.
Can this be corrected with a reprint or touch-up?
No. Because the hue shift comes from the printing process rather than the image file, reprints and touch-ups won't produce a different result.
What should I do if I want black & white photos in my project?
You're welcome to include black & white photos in your Mixbook project! Just keep in mind that the final print may show subtle undertones rather than appearing perfectly neutral. If a true, pure black & white print is essential for your project, we'd recommend keeping this in mind before placing your order.
